UAE reports 342 new Covid-19 cases, 2 deaths; 40% fatalities associated with diabetes

The Ministry of Health and Prevention in the UAE has registered 342 new Covid-19 cases, as a result of more than 27,000 tests conducted to screen for the virus.

The total cases now stand at 42,636 while currently 14,216 people are receiving treatment.

The ministry also confirmed two deaths, raising the death toll to 291.

“Our records show that 40% of Covid-19 deaths have been associated with diabetes – we urge the public to pay more attention to groups at risk. These include the elderly and people who have diabetes and other chronic diseases,” said Dr. Amna Al Shamsi, the UAE government spokesperson.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MOID) Fatmah Al Abdouli, said that ministry launched a smart platform to support the government’s efforts in dealing with the coronavirus crisis and its impact.

The platform offers data of 3,500 government buildings, with capacity to accommodate 500,000 individuals, Al Abdouli added.
