The Emirates Schools Establishment (ESE) has said that while public schools will resume campus learning for the 2021-2022 academic year when schools reopen on August 29, distance learning will remain in place if parents wish to opt for it.

The ESE said that a special protocol for returning to school will be developed in coordination with the Ministry of Education, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority and other authorities in the country to ensure the safety of the students and the educational cadre.

Its teams are reportedly working to ensure the highest levels of safety for students and educational staff to facilitate physical learning in public schools.

It added that it will also work closely with school principals and train teachers and administrators to ensure a full implementation of precautionary and preventive protocols to encourage students to return to school.

ESE stated that each school will be handled separately based on its data and without affecting the country’s public education system, according to state news agency WAM.

The public school education authority urged parents to cooperate with the country’s authorities to implement this decision allowing students to return to their school campus.

It added that 72 per cent of the educational staff at public schools have received the Covid-19 vaccine,

According to the academic calendar, the students’ return on August 29 will coincide with teachers and administrators returning full-time at schools as well.

ESE’s decision came shortly after the Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee also approved the physical return of students to schools for the upcoming 2021-2022 academic year in the emirate. It said that full-time remote learning will be allowed to parents who request it, if the option is offered by their child’s school.
