UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed announces “Union Pledge Day” on July 18

The UAE’s President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has officially declared July 18 as “Union Pledge Day”, reported state news agency WAM.

This day commemorates the historic meeting held in 1971, where the Founding Father of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, along with the Rulers of the emirates, signed the declaration of the Union and the UAE Constitution, officially announcing the formation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The historic meeting on July 18, 1971 was a pivotal step towards the establishment of the federation on December 2, 1971.

Sheikh Mohamed highlighted the significance of this date, stating that it marks one of the most important milestones in the history of the UAE, where the foundation for the nation’s unity and constitution was solidified.

“Union Pledge Day is an occasion to reflect on the UAE’s blessed journey, to draw lessons and inspiration for the present and future, and to renew our nation’s pledge to God Almighty and the people of the UAE to uphold unity and progress,” said President Sheikh Mohamed.
