UAE President Sheikh Mohamed receives Jordan’s King Abdullah

The UAE’s President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of  Jordan, who arrived in the UAE for a state visit.

The President welcomed King Abdullah II upon his arrival at Al Bateen Executive Airport in Abu Dhabi, according to the state news agency, WAM.

Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and other government ministers were also present at the reception.

Accompanying King Abdullah II is Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, Crown Prince of Jordan. The delegation also includes Dr Bisher Al-Khasawneh, Prime Minister of Jordan, along with a number of ministers and high-ranking officials, WAM reported.

The plane carrying King Abdullah was escorted by fighter jets in a ceremonial gesture of welcome and celebration of his visit.

King Abdullah II’s visit to the UAE comes in response to an invitation from Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and aims at strengthening the two countries’ historic relations and strategic cooperation.

The visit also aims to realise their vision for sustainable development and prosperity in both nations.

Strong relations in place between the UAE and Jordan

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was one of the first countries that recognised the establishment of the UAE after the announcement of the UAE Federation’s founding on December 2, 1971.

On December 3, the Jordanian government established full bilateral diplomatic relations and opened the Jordanian embassy in Abu Dhabi in 1972. The UAE embassy in Amman opened in 1973.

Trade exchange between the two countries has witnessed continuous growth, with the volume of non-oil trade hitting Dhs16.5bn ($4.5bn) in 2022, 47.4 per cent up on 2021, while the volume of non-oil UAE exports and re-exports reached about Dhs14.7bn ($4bn) in 2022, WAM reported.
