If you have negative traffic points or ‘black points’ on your driving licence, the UAE government has launched an initiative to help you remove them in the coming days. The UAE’s Ministry of Interior (MoI) has launched a new initiative to increase road safety awareness through its ‘Accident-Free Day’ campaign, reported state news agency WAM.

The Federal Traffic Council’s campaign asks drivers to take part in the MoI’s accident-free day initiative — which will be marked on August 28, when thousands of students return to school after the two-month summer break.

The ‘Accident-Free Campaign’ will help those who drive safely on the first day of the new academic year get rid of four black points off their record.

How can you remove black points from your driving licence in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and other emirates?

Take part in the MoI-led Federal Traffic Council’s positive initiative and you will have four black traffic points stuck off your record. The campaign is aimed at rewarding individuals who take part in the initiative.

To claim the deduction, you first need to head to the website and sign the pledge for the initiative.

  • In addition to the pledge, while you drive around on August 28 you need to ensure to follow all the traffic rules and not record any traffic violations or accidents on this day.

Brig General Hussain Ahmed Al Harthy, chair of the Federal Traffic Council, detailed the purpose behind this initiative. He said, “the campaign is designed to bolster participation and road safety awareness and it falls under the umbrella of the nation’s traffic sector initiatives. The announcement serves as both encouragement and a reminder of the day’s significance in promoting traffic safety and awareness.”

Al Harthy emphasised the universal call to raise awareness and follow traffic regulations. “Upholding these principles in a consistent and broad manner is essential. Participants who maintain this commitment will receive a reward of 4 black traffic points deducted from their record.”

The “Accident-Free Day” initiative aims to build on existing efforts by various traffic monitoring entities in the nation.

What are black points or negative traffic fines?

Black points, or negative traffic points, are a penalty issued against serious traffic violations such as accidents.

Violations like speeding or incorrect parking draw a monetary penalty however, violations such as causing accidents can lead to black points being imposed in addition to monetary fines.
