The campaign, titled ‘Accident-Free Day,’ is scheduled for August 26 and coincides with the beginning of the new school year. Those who successfully participate in the ‘Accident-Free Day’ campaign will be eligible for a reduction of four black points, which will be applied two weeks after the event as an incentive for continued safe driving throughout the year. Brigadier Engineer Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, chairman of the Federal Traffic Council, highlighted that this initiative is a key component of the Ministry’s strategy to enhance road safety, in line with the UAE government’s vision. He emphasised that the primary goal of the campaign is to foster a culture of responsible driving. This includes educating motorists on crucial safety measures, such as adhering to speed limits, especially near schools, avoiding distractions like mobile phones, following traffic lane discipline, maintaining safe distances, prioritising pedestrians, and giving way to emergency vehicles. The Ministry of Interior has urged both drivers and parents to strictly observe traffic laws on August 26 and beyond, to ensure the success of the campaign. How to get remove black points on your UAE licence To participate and qualify for the black point reduction, motorists must sign a pledge available online through the Ministry’s portal and social media platforms. The pledge requires participants to commit to a set of safe driving practices, including: Avoiding traffic violations or accidents on the day Adhering to speed limits in each emirate Observing traffic signals Wearing seat belts at all times Maintaining a safe distance between vehicles Refraining from using mobile phones while driving Observing lane discipline Avoiding driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol Respecting school zones by slowing down Using child safety seats Prioritising pedestrians and emergency vehicles Traffic fine Black points are penalties imposed on drivers for serious traffic offences, with the number of points varying based on the severity of the violation. Accumulating 24 black points within 12 months can lead to licence suspension, with the suspension duration determined by the nature of the offences. There are 143 federal traffic laws in the UAE, with penalties that include fines, black points, vehicle confiscation, and licence suspension, applicable across all emirates.
