The day is dedicated to honouring the nation’s martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty inside the country and abroad. On this occasion, the government and people of the UAE remember with pride and gratitude the sacrifices of its brave heroes. The UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates, have designated the wellbeing of martyr families as a top priority. The UAE’s leadership has implemented a comprehensive strategy focused on addressing the affairs of martyr families, including housing programmes, comprehensive healthcare, educational support, and various social welfare initiatives, all aimed at ensuring the stability and welfare of the families, the state news agency, WAM, said. The UAE has launched the ‘Abnaa Al Fakhr Camp’ which is being organised by the Martyrs’ Families’ Affairs Office. The camp aims to receive the sons of the UAE martyrs to support the development of authentic Emirati skills and values through various activities derived from the original UAE heritage, WAM reported. Words in praise of martyrs In a speech delivered on the occasion of Commemoration Day, Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai, said: “This day provides us with an opportunity to express our gratitude and appreciation to the noble martyrs of our nation, who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our homeland, demonstrating unwavering loyalty to the country. Their heroic actions will remain etched in the memories of the UAE people for generations to come.” “On this day, we also extend our appreciation and gratitude to the mothers and fathers of the martyrs, as well as their families and loved ones. We recognise the lasting sacrifices they have made, which will forever shine as a guiding light and enduring example in the history of the UAE.” UAE Union Day celebrations to follow The UAE will also mark its 52nd Union Day on December 2 with official celebrations at Expo City Dubai, the venue for COP28. The organising committee announced plans to stage an official ceremony that will display the UAE’s rich heritage. The show will tell the UAE’s vision of a sustainable future – through performances and storytelling – where the world collaborates to overcome climate challenges through innovation and collective action. A live broadcast of the ceremony will air on all local TV channels on December 2, and on the official website. Additionally, the Union Parade is one of the key events of the Sheikh Zayed Festival. Held on December 2 and 3, it represents the spirit of patriotism. It brings the community together, highlighting the values and leaders who have driven the country’s solidarity and success.
