Home Climate UAE is among top nations for solar energy use, reveals report The UAE has three of the world’s largest solar sites by Gulf Business September 13, 2023 Image: WAM A recent report published by the Energy Institute Statistical Review of World Energy revealed that the UAE ranks amongst the top world leaders in solar energy use, driven largely by the vision of its ambitious leadership. The UAE is the sixth highest per capita consumer of this form of energy in the world, ranking after Australia, The Netherlands, Japan, Israel and Chile, the review showed. The GCC nation has three of the planet’s largest solar sites, the state news agency WAM reported. The country has also developed mega projects, including Shams, Noor Abu Dhabi and Al Dhafra in Abu Dhabi, as well as the largest single-site project in the world at Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai. Latest development in the UAE solar power sector In recent news, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) selected Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) to build and operate the 1,800 megawatt (MW) sixth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park with an estimated cost of up to Dhs5.51bn. Masdar has played a key role in these projects, collaborating with key government and private sector partners to further increase capacity. The company continues to support the UAE in becoming a clean energy global powerhouse.
