Home GCC UAE Two participants win Dhs1m each in UAE’s Mahzooz draw Syam, 47, and Sultan, 30, became the sixth and seventh millionaires of the year by matching five out of six numbers by Gulf Business May 13, 2021 Two participants won Dhs1m each in the 24th weekly live Mahzooz draw in the UAE. Mahzooz, formerly known as Emirates Loto, holds weekly draws and Syam, 47, and Sultan, 30, became the sixth and seventh millionaires of the year by matching five out of six numbers. Syam, an Indian expat who has lived in Oman for the past 18 years, has participated with Mahzooz from day one but this is his first time getting lucky. “I’ve never won before and I’ve had weeks where none of my numbers came out,” said Syam. “I wasn’t able to watch the draw show this weekend, so I was surprised when I got an email saying I won. Then I saw the figure and I couldn’t believe it; I went on YouTube, watched the draw and confirmed the numbers.” The expat, who is from Kerala in India, said he would use the money to buy land and build a home for his family back home. “We can start planning our future now. Additionally, I want to give some of this money to help people in need,” he said. Emirati national Sultan, a frequent Mahzooz participant, said he was taken by surprise by the win. “I got an email saying I won and I just couldn’t believe it,” he said. “I was in shock. I don’t think it felt real until I got the call from Mahzooz in the morning – only then did I truly believe this is happening. “I’ve been trying to make plans for the money but the first thing I’ll do is take care of any loans either my family or I have. After that, we’ll see. I haven’t fully figured it out yet,” he added. Entrants can participate in Mahzooz by registering via its website and purchasing a bottle of water. Each bottle of water purchased (for Dhs35) provides eligibility for one line in the draw and the donation is channelled through Mahzooz’s community partners to hydrate those in need. The next draw will be held as scheduled on Saturday May 15, 2021 at 9pm UAE time. No one has yet claimed the bumper prize of Dhs50m for choosing all six numbers correctly.
