Turkish Airlines has begun flights from Istanbul to Detroit, the largest city in the state of Michigan.

At present, the airline is operating thrice-weekly flights between Istanbul airport and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County airport.

TK205 departs from Istanbul at 3.45pm. After a 11 hour and 55 minute flight, it lands in Detroit on the same day at 6.50pm local time.

TK206 meanwhile departs from Detroit at 9.35pm and lands back in Istanbul at 3.35pm the following day.

After December 25, 2023, the airline said that it will ramp up services on the route to four weekly flights.

“We have brought two great cities, Istanbul and Detroit, closer together by initiating this direct flight. We’re thrilled to connect Istanbul and Detroit, creating opportunities for travel, business, and cultural exploration. As the national flag carrier of Türkiye, our beautiful country, we reach to more countries than any other airline in the world, and by adding new destinations to our ever-expanding network, such as Detroit, we continue to serve our primary mission of uniting people and cultures all around the globe,” said Ahmet Bolat, Turkish Airlines chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee.

Turkish Airlines outlines vision for the next decade

Detroit marks the carrier’s 13th point within the US itself and takes its global network up to 345 destinations.

The airline celebrated its 90th anniversary this year and earlier this year outlined a series of targets for the next decade, including the doubling of its fleet.

It has set a target of expanding its fleet to over 800 aircraft by 2033, up from around 400 aircraft now.

Similarly Turkish wants to serve 170 million passengers per year by 2033, compared to the forecast 85 million in 2023, with a network of more than 400 destinations.

The carrier is targeting consolidated revenue of over $50bn by 2033, contributing $140bn of added value to Türkiye’s economy by the same year.
