With the summer holidays approaching, families in the United Arab Emirates have started planning their trips and tours.

According to travel search site Wego’s flight search volumes, cooler climates and shorter flights play a major role in the destinations people select.

Here’s a list of the 10 favourite destinations for UAE residents, as rated by the site.

1. Cairo, Egypt

Cairo has a plethora of historic places to explore, including the pyramids of Giza, city of the dead and the Egyptian Museum. It tops the list of preferred destinations for UAE residents.

2. Istanbul, Turkey

There are several exotic places in Istanbul that make it worth a visit, including the Topkapi Palace, the Blue Mosque and the Golden Horn.

3. Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
