Top 10 Google Search Terms In The UAE

Ramadan 2013, Gangnam Style and smartphones’ search queries top Google 2013 trending list for the UAE.

Global festivals and smartphones constituted the top internet queries in the UAE during 2013, according to Google’s annual zeitgeist report, which revealed the country’s most searched trends, events and people.

The trending searches for the UAE in 2013 indicated that online users showed a keen interest in technology, Google said. The findings also highlight that UAE users are up-to-date with global technological trends.

Globally, celebrity deaths dominated the most trended search queries list. Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s first black president who passed away in December, topped the list of most searched terms followed by Fast and Furious star Paul Walker who died in a car accident in November. Cory Monteith, who died of a drug abuse earlier this year and who is well known for his role in the TV series Glee, came fourth in the global list.

However, the UAE’s list was dominated by search queries about festivals and events such as Eid and Diwali.

‘Ramadan 2013’ was the most searched term in the UAE followed by Apple’s recently launched iPhone 5S.

Korean rap singer Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’ music video, which had topped the 2012 most trending search terms, retained its position at the fourth place in 2013.

Zeitgeist also released the lists of top trending individuals, most searched actors/actresses, athletes, sports teams, musicians, movies, travel destinations, food & beverages and fashion labels among others.
