The National Central Cooling Company (Tabreed) has been named as the preferred bidder for a long-term district cooling concession contract for the Hyderabad Pharma City master plan located in the Indian state of Telangana. Tabreed was selected by the state government’s Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation, as per its filing with Dubai Financial Market.

Hyderabad Pharma City is the world’s largest integrated cluster in the state’s capital city for pharmaceutical industries which focus on research and development as well as manufacturing.

Hyderabad Pharma City contract

Phase 1 of the district cooling project (DCT) will include the construction of district cooling facilities of 2,500 RT (refrigeration tonnes), with an approximate project cost of Dhs36.2m. This project includes future expansion plans divided in phases depending on demand requirements for up to cumulative load of 125,000 RT.

Tabreed noted in its filing that the first phase of the Hyderabad Pharma City project would have a funding mix of 75 per cent local financing and 25 per cent equity funding, paid in line with construction milestones.

“Additional investment will be required to fund construction of additional cooling infrastructure in line with project requirements as needed to meet demands,” it said in the filing on Monday.

The company added that the close of the contract will be carried out in the last quarter of this year along with construction works slated to be initiated as soon as possible.

Tabreed India’s expansion plans

Tabreed India, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi’s National Central Cooling Company, said that its focus is on building its business through partnerships with pan-India real estate companies and corporations to set up district cooling systems.

Earlier this year, Sudheer Perla, country manager, Tabreed India was quoted as saying, “Our focus predominantly is commercial. It’s all commercial real estate as we are seeing the most interest from that segment,” as per news portal Moneycontrol.

Additionally, Tabreed along with ADNOC recently announced a breakthrough in their efforts to harness geothermal energy, for use across its district cooling projects. The geothermal project aims to decarbonise the cooling of buildings in Masdar City, in order to diversify the UAE’s energy mix and support the UAE National Energy Strategy 2050.
