Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health (MoH) has clarified that switching between Covid-19 vaccines approved in the kingdom is safe and effective.

On Wednesday, a spokesman for the ministry urged those who are eligible to receive the vaccine and have already received one dose, to receive their second jab as well. Doing so, the spokesman added, helps to prevent infections especially of the mutant strains of the virus.

The total number of vaccine jabs administered within the country as of September 8  stood at 38,490,013.

In August, the kingdom recognised two Chinese vaccines, Sinopharm, and Sinovac. The vaccines which are now recognised in Saudi are Oxford-AstraZeneca, Pfizer-BioNTech, Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, Sinopharm, and Sinovac.

On September 8, the kingdom reported 119 new cases and 117 and 188 recoveries, as well as seven deaths over the preceding 24 hours.

The total number of cases recorded therefore stood at 545,624 including 534,639 recoveries and 8,598 fatalites.
