Spinneys to build mega facility in Food Tech Valley

Food Tech Valley, the UAE-government-led initiative to build a sustainable food ecosystem, has taken a significant step forward with a new partnership with Spinneys.

Under the 27-year agreement, Spinneys will establish a massive 500,000 square foot processing facility within Food Tech Valley.

The new processing facility will significantly expand the capabilities of Food Tech Valley, making it a more comprehensive hub for food technology and innovation.

Spinneys’ investment in the facility will contribute to increasing the UAE’s domestic food production capacity, reducing its reliance on imports.

The project, expected to be operational soon, will create new jobs and stimulate economic growth in the region.

Spinney’s CEO Sunil Kumar said, “As a homegrown brand, we are committed to the well-being of our customers, our communities, and the UAE ecosystem. Spinneys has always championed local farmers and food producers, hence our partnership with Food Tech Valley assumes greater importance.”

Food Tech Valley focused on enabling food security

Rashed Mohammad, chief real estate officer of Wasl, said: “The addition of the Spinneys facility further strengthens our commitment to transforming the food sector and positioning Dubai as a hub for food innovation, sustainability, and security.

“We look forward to supporting the UAE’s food security with partners who share the same commitment to growing in sustainable, future-focused ways.”

With over 90 per cent of food in the UAE currently imported, Food Tech Valley is vital for developing a more sustainable and self-sufficient food ecosystem. This aligns with the UAE government’s ambitious goal of becoming a global leader in food security by 2051.

Food Tech Valley is developing a wide range of facilities and services, including production zones, warehousing, logistics, cold-storage facilities, an innovation and R&D centre, an academy, a business park, a marketplace, a visitor centre, and residential areas.
