Sheikh Hamdan to head UAE delegation to World Economic Forum in Davos

The event is taking place in the Swiss city of Davos from January 22 to 25

Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum will head the UAE delegation to the 49th session of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The event, taking place in the Swiss city from January 22 to 25, will see the UAE participate in 10 sessions addressing global challenges in the fields of economy, advanced science, space, artificial intelligence, environment and entrepreneurship.

The theme of this year’s WEF looks at how to cope with the fourth industrial revolution, and the opportunities and challenges emerging technologies pose for society.

The UAE delegation comprises many ministers including minister of Cabinet and Future Affairs Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, minister of State for Finance Obaid Bin Humaid Al Tayer, minister of Climate Change and Environment Thani Bin Ahmed Al Zuwaidi, and minister of State for Happiness and Quality of Life Oud Bint Khalfan Al Roumi, among others.

It also includes business leaders including officials from DIFC, Dubai Economic Department, and Dubai Future Foundation, among others.

“The UAE adopts an approach that focuses on strengthening international cooperation, and establishing a new formula of joint action aimed for the good of people, as well as taking benefit from prominent global platforms such as the World Economic Forum to shape trends, unify visions and reach a common understanding of the challenges of the next phase, to contribute to the development of appropriate solutions,” Sheikh Hamdan said.

The World Economic Forum (WEF), a global platform for leaders of countries and heads of government will see more than 3,000 participants hold discussions this year. The forum will specifically probe the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution era in terms of advanced technology, such as artificial intelligence, robotics, fine medicine, self-driving vehicles, Internet things and others, and review the frameworks of understanding the transformational power of these technologies.
