Sharjah-based Air Arabia has announced it will be the first carrier to launch direct flights between the UAE and the Turkish city of Izmir.

The budget airline will fly twice a week to Izmir from June 27 on Wednesdays and Saturdays, adding to its other existing and upcoming Turkish flights to Istanbul, Antalya, Bodrum and Trabzon.

Planes will depart Sharjah International Airport at 9:05pm and arrive at Izmir’s Menderes International Airport at 12:50am the next day.

The return flight will leave at 1:30am and arrive in Sharjah at 6:50am.

“Air Arabia’s goal will always be to allow passengers the ability to explore new destinations through affordable travel options,” said Air Arabia group CEO Adel Ali.

“This new flight to Izmir is an exciting destination for residents in the UAE and GCC to visit just in time for the summer holidays.”

Air Arabia operates more than 140 routes from its five hubs at Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Morocco, Egypt and Jordan.

The carrier said last month it would begin flights to Bodrum on June 13.
