Sharjah drops traffic fines for rain violations, issues free damage certificates

In response to the recent bout of unstable weather conditions in the UAE, Sharjah Police, issued an order to waive all traffic violations committed by drivers during the period of “low surface pressure.”

Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, the Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police issued the order to help ease the burden of residents impacted by the April 16 deluge.

The UAE grappled with adverse weather conditions from Monday, April 15, through Wednesday, April 17, with Tuesday, April 16, experiencing the brunt of the instability.

Sharjah impacted by heavy rains

The unstable weather system brought record rainfall to the UAE, surpassing any recorded precipitation since data collection began in 1949.

The heavy rains inundated roads across the Emirates, resulting in water-logged streets and widespread flooding.

Rain damage was seen across large parts of Dubai and Sharjah.

As the extreme weather persisted, numerous motorists found themselves grappling with vehicle damage caused by the deluge.

Submerged roads and rising floodwaters forced hundreds of residents to abandon their vehicles, navigating through murky waters to seek safety.

Free rain damage certificate

As residents across Sharjah grapple with the aftermath of the heavy rains, Sharjah Police announced that those vehicles damaged in the deluge can obtain the damage certificate for free, reported state news agency WAM.

Maj Gen Al Shamsi announced that individuals affected by weather-related vehicle damage in Sharjah can now obtain destruction certificates at no cost.

These certificates are accessible through the official channels of Sharjah Police.

Al Shamsi underscored the availability of destruction certificates for weather-damaged cars via the “Sharjah Police Smart App” and the police website.

Highlighting the collaborative efforts of field teams with concerned parties, Al Shamsi emphasised the commitment to ensuring residential stability and offering extensive assistance to affected families across all cities in Sharjah.

Furthermore, he reiterated Sharjah Police’s commitment to fulfilling national, societal, and humanitarian obligations in line with the directives of the country’s leadership.
