Saudi’s Sipchem Says Has Finished Testing New Plastics Plant

Saudi International Petrochemical Co (Sipchem) has finished testing a new plastics plant owned by an affiliate, it said on Tuesday.

“Testing equipment of the plant has been successfully completed,” the company said in a statement.

Last month, Sipchem said production was likely to start in April.

“The company will announce commercial production, the financial impact and any other development in due course,” it said on Tuesday.

The Sipchem Chemicals Co plant, located in Jubail on the Gulf coast of Saudi Arabia, will make up to 63,000 tonnes per year of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) resin. PBT is a thermal polymer used in electrical and electronic material production in the automotive and information technology industries.
