Saudi man dies as shopping centre collapses in Jeddah – report

A Saudi man in his 40s died when the roof of a shopping centre in east Jeddah collapsed on him, according to local media reports.

The man was shopping inside the centre when the iron and steel roof structure caved in, Saudi Gazette quoted Civil Defence spokesman Saeed Sarhan as saying.

While all the shoppers were immediately evacuated, the Civil Defense also disconnected electricity supply as a precautionary measure, he said.

Sarhan said rescue teams who searched the area found the Saudi man buried underneath the debris. He was already dead when they found him, the report stated.
