The transport authority said that Union Coop Society and Emirates Post were among its first partners for this new initiative

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that it has teamed up with firms based within the emirate which have online shopping platforms to help them fulfill contactless deliveries.

The RTA is using its Dubai Taxi vehicles and franchised taxi fleet, and drivers, to complete the deliveries.

The transport authority said that Union Coop Society and Emirates Post were among its first partners for this new initiative.

“The service is aligned with the UAE leadership’s directives to people to stay at home, practice social distancing and follow precautionary measures against the coronavirus, Covid-19,” said the RTA.

The RTA says that by undertaking this initiative it will be able to reduce the pressure on delivery services offered by online shopping platforms and ensures the public are able to receive their orders on time.

It added that its contactless delivery mechanism meant that the health and safety of both customers and drivers are safeguarded at all times.

Given the spurt in online commerce, food delivery service Careem NOW too has said that it will reduce its commission by 15 per cent for restaurants across Dubai.
