Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced new number plate designs for classic vehicles, inspired by those used in the emirate in the Eighties.

To qualify as a classic, the vehicle must be at least 30 years old.

The plates which will be available from November can be ordered via the RTA’s website or through its Customer Happiness Centre in Deira.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, issued the directives for the new plates.

“With the new design, the plates can be clearly and easily read from a distance. The design has two distinct elements – the words Dubai and Classic are written in both Arabic and English on a yellow background, while the number is written on a white background,” said Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, director general and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors for the RTA.

“The new design meets all the required technical standards. The plates have a touch of luxury and feature innovative digital printing. Moreover, they are not affected by different climate conditions,” added Al Tayer.

On August 22, the RTA held its 104th Open Auction for Distinctive Number Plates and generated a total revenues of Dhs36.224m, an 83 per cent increase over the previous auction held in December 2019.
