Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is spotlighting the Dubai Metro Blue Line project at InnoTrans 2024 in Berlin, the world’s largest transport technology event.

The project, which spans 30 km and connects 14 stations, includes a 1.3 km bridge over Dubai Creek, offering a panoramic view of the waterway. Once complete, the Blue Line is projected to serve 320,000 riders daily by 2040, with travel times between stations ranging from 10 to 25 minutes.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the RTA, led the delegation at the event, where the authority also showcased suspended transport systems, smart metro stations, and a railway infrastructure inspection system. In a statement, the RTA said its stand at InnoTrans emphasised advanced technologies, such as the smart passenger flow monitoring system and the unified nol card system for fare payment across different transport modes.

Al Tayer joined global transport leaders during the exhibition’s opening ceremony and participated in discussions about the future of rail transport, including a panel on artificial intelligence in mobility. He also toured the exhibition stands, exploring innovations in rail management, 3D printing for trains, and solutions aimed at increasing train capacity without expanding infrastructure.

During his visit to the Alstom stand, Al Tayer reviewed sustainable solutions for driverless trains, AI-driven operations, and predictive maintenance. He also explored innovations in decarbonising railways and promoting sustainability in high-speed trains, metros, and monorails. Other stops included the CAF stand, where he was briefed on emission-free transport solutions, and Hyundai Rotem’s showcase of hydrogen-powered trains.

RTA’s participation at InnoTrans also facilitated strategic meetings, including discussions with Marie-Ange Debon, Chairwoman of Keolis, and Mohamed Mezghani, Secretary-General of the International Association of Public Transport. The RTA also signed several agreements, including a contract for advertising on the Dubai Tram with Info Media Group and a rail central accounts project contract with Hitachi’s Centelec subsidiary.

Commenting on the event, Al Tayer said the conference offers valuable insights into train manufacturing advancements, safety measures, and service quality, all of which align with RTA’s mission to enhance public transport in Dubai.

“This conference has become a major international event in the field of trains, offering insight into key aspects of train infrastructure and interior design of carriages. RTA is dedicated to serving a broad sector of the community and is committed to delivering services that meet the highest international standards, reflecting Dubai’s ongoing development across the board,” said Al Tayer.
