The LG Optimus L9 P768 comes packed with all the quintessential features of smartphone – a 1GHZ dual-core processor, Android 4.0.04 OS (no jelly bean at launch though), 1GB RAM and 4GB internal storage space, a microSD card slot and an 8MP camera.

While it’s great that the phone is super slim – just 9.1mm thick and weighs only 140 grams, you might find it slightly tricky to get used to handling an almost weightless phone – if your hands are well-oiled with bulkier devices. Design-wise, the L9 looks good, but the phone is a tad big and the device has a slippery feel to it (the back).

The L9’s 4.7-inch display is reasonably sharp with a screen resolution of 540 x 960 pixels, but out in the bright sunlight, it was hard to decipher the screen clearly. Another problem was with the scrolling, where we noticed a slight lag – not a big deal, but can be irksome if you are used to more responsive phones.

The 8MP rear camera produced acceptable photos and the phone’s ‘Cheese Shutter Function’ – where you say cheese to take a photo, is efficient and quite fun.

Another interesting feature is the QTranslator Function, that allows you to translate foreign words and sentences by scanning a document.

All in all, the phone, priced at Dhs999 in the UAE, certainly gives you value for your money. It is available in black and white color at all the retail outlets in the country.
