Home GCC UAE Revealed: Likely date for Eid Al Fitr 2022 in UAE Ramadan is predicted to extend for 30 days this year by Varun Godinho April 12, 2022 Eid Al Fitr in the UAE is forecast to fall on Monday, May 2, according to the Emirates Astronomical Society (EAS) said on Monday. Ibrahim Al Jarwan, EAS board chairman, said that the first day of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar is expected to fall on May 2. The UAE moon-sighting committee will convene to confirm the official starting date for Eid. Prior to the start of Ramadan, Al Jarwan had correctly predicted that the holy month of Ramadan would begin on Saturday, April 2, 2022. At the time, he had added that Ramadan in 1433 Hijri Year is expected to last for 30 days, and therefore Eid Al Fitr was predicted to fall on May 2. Read: Revealed: Dates for Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr 2022 in UAE If Ramadan does, as predicted last 30 days, then the UAE is likely to receive a six-day weekend starting Saturday, April 30 and ending on Thursday, May 5. However, if Ramadan is 29 days this year, then residents of the UAE are likely to get a five-day holiday extending from April 30 to May 4. There has been no official confirmation yet on the dates of the holidays for either the public or private sector within the UAE. The official working hours for federal government employees during Ramadan is from 9am-2.30pm from Monday-Thursday, and from 9am-12pm on Fridays. They can additionally avail of flexible hours and remote working options on Fridays, provided that there is no interruption in services provided by the respective departments. A maximum of 40 per cent of government employees of each entity will be allowed to work remotely on Fridays. Private sector employees meanwhile will be able to avail of a reduction of two hours daily during Ramadan.
