Reel Cinemas, the entertainment arm of Emaar Retail, has recorded a footfall of nine million visitors since its opening four years ago.
The 22-screen megaplex at The Dubai Mall received over 2.6 million visitors in 2013 marking a 25 per cent growth in audience turnout compared to 2012. The six-screen cineplex at Dubai Marina Mall recorded 325,000 visitors in 2013.
“The film sector is an important contributor to the entertainment industry of the UAE and the robust growth in audience turnout at Reel Cinemas underlines the clear differential we have set in terms of setting industry benchmarks,” said Maitha Al Dossari, COO of Emaar Retail.
“Today, Reel Cinemas enjoys 22 per cent market share, a clear testament to the growth we have achieve in a short span of time. Our recent enhancements at Dubai Marina Mall’s premier boutique cinema and The Dubai Mall Platinum Movie Suites are direct contributors to achieving this success in such a short span of time.”
UAE’s cineplexes have been growing steadily throughout this year and have been expanding their offerings.
Grand Cinemas has been on an aggressive regional expansion drive throughout 2013 and has announced plans to launch four new theatres within the GCC by 2014. The new screens will be located in Abu Dhabi’s World Trade Centre and Dubai’s Dragon Mart along with cinemas in The Pearl- Doha and Muharraq mall in Bahrain. The group also announced the appointment of a new CEO to spearhead its expansion drive in the coming years.
Vox Cinemas, part of the Dubai-based conglomerate Majid Al Futtaim Ventures, announced the launch of a 14-screen megaplex in the Bur Juman shopping mall, which is set to open in 2014.
Targeting the large number of the UAE cinegoers, Vox Cinemas has also introduced myVOX, a boutique-sized cinema designed to host private events, private screening of latest blockbuster or even football tournaments.
MyVOX is located at Deira City Centre and has 34 seats and a 20 foot-wide cinema screen packing.
