Ramadan 2022

The UAE has announced the official working hours for the month of Ramadan this year for federal government employees.

Accordingly, they will work from 9am-2.30pm from Monday-Thursday, and from 9am-12pm on Fridays during Ramadan, according to state-run news agency WAM.

Furthermore, these federal government employees can avail of flexible hours and remote working options on Fridays, provided that there is no interruption in services provided by the respective departments.

To avail of the remote working option, they must obtain approvals from their supervisor, the director of the department and also the human resources department within their organisation.

A maximum of 40 per cent of government employees of each entity will be allowed to work remotely on Fridays.

Ramadan is expected to begin on April 2, although this hasn’t yet been confirmed and will be contingent on the sighting of the crescent moon. Ramadan, is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, during which Muslims around the world fast from sunrise to sunset.

Although the work timings for private sector employees during Ramadan this year have not yet been announced, it is expected to broadly mirror those of the public sector.
