Farnborough Airshow: Qatar Airways expands Boeing 777-9 order

Qatar Airways has announced a significant expansion to its Boeing 777X aircraft order at the Farnborough International Airshow 2024.

The order now includes an additional 20 Boeing 777-9 aircraft, bringing the total to 94 commercial and cargo Boeing 777X aircraft.

This agreement also covers a commitment for 40 additional GE9X engines and spare engines, along with a long-term services agreement.

Qatar Airways group CEO Engineer Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, commented, “Qatar Airways is proud to announce an expansion to the existing Boeing 777X aircraft order with an additional 20, totalling 94 Boeing 777X aircraft.

“We are an industry leader and operate one of the youngest fleets, offering unparalleled innovation and quality.”

Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and CEO, Stephanie Pope, stated, “Qatar Airways is a leader in our industry, and we are honored the airline added 20 more 777-9 jets to its large Boeing order book.”

GE Aerospace president and CEO, Commercial Engines and Services, Russell Stokes, added, “The GE9X is the world’s most powerful and most fuel-efficient turbofan, and we look forward to continuing to support the growth of the Qatar Airways family with this technology.”

In addition to the expanded aircraft order, the airline showcased the highly anticipated Qsuite Next Gen, the latest version of the ‘World’s Best Business Class’, on the first day of the Farnborough Airshow 2024.

The Qsuite Next Gen will be featured on the 20 additional Boeing 777-9 aircraft, among others. The new Qsuite includes features such as movable monitors with Bluetooth connectivity, companion suites with window views, larger lie-flat and double beds, lockable drawers, and touchscreen Passenger Control Units.

Al-Meer highlighted the innovative aspects of the Qsuite Next Gen during its reveal, stating, “We are excited to have finally revealed the long-awaited Qsuite Next Gen at the Farnborough International Airshow. Qatar Airways has once again raised the bar for its award-winning product, the Qsuite.”

The airline’s state-of-the-art Boeing B787-9 Dreamliner and Qatar Executive’s all-new Gulfstream G700 are also being showcased at the event.
