Brand owner SBE will also open two properties in Dubai in 2017 and 2018

Luxury hotel brand Mondrian will open its first hotel in the Middle East in Doha in the second quarter of 2017, it has been confirmed.

Sam Nazarian, founder & CEO of Mondrian’s parent company SBE Entertainment Group, said the property would be the first of three the firm had planned in the region.

The company will also open two more hotels in Dubai this year and next year along with a number of restaurants.

Located in West Bay Lagoon, Mondrian Doha has been designed by Dutch designer Marcel Wanders and South West Architecture and is shaped like a falcon.

It features a stained glass dome skylight on the 27th floor and a custom, four-level spiral staircase to nowhere in the atrium.

The 270 rooms will comprise 59 penthouse, studio and one- and two-bedroom suites and 211 standard guestrooms over 24 floors. All will feature bespoke artwork, custom-made furniture and Swarovski crystal chandeliers.

The property will also include souq-style shops, giant columns with golden eggs, a ‘tree of life’ comprised of flowers, falcon video art, giant shisha, patterned carpets, ornate stained glass and intricate mosaic tiling.

Among the eight F&B venues will be Cut by renowned chef Wolfgang Ouck, Morimoto Doha by Japan’s Masaharu Morimoto, Walima and Hudson Tavern and the Smoke & Mirrors, Cirrus, and Black Orchid bars.

There will also be a bakery, authentic Qatari restaurant, burger restaurant, cigar lounge and shisha terrace.

Other features include a 2,000sqm spa, a 2,000sqm wedding and ballroom venue for 1,500 guests, a standalone meeting floor with conference facilities, entertainment floor with nightclub, indoor pool, sky bar and flower and retail store.

The opening plans follow SBE’s acquisition of boutique hotel operator and Mondrian brand owner Morgans Hotel Group in December.
