All employees of Abu Dhabi government entities and companies will be required to take a Covid-19 PCR test every seven days, it has been announced.

The directive comes into effect from Sunday, December 26.

The decision is aimed at enhancing existing measures to protect public health, Abu Dhabi Media Office said in a brief statement on Twitter.

“In coordination with Abu Dhabi Emergency Crisis and Disasters Committee, the Department of Government Support will implement a mandatory requirement for PCR tests every 7 days for all employees of government entities and companies in the emirate, from Sunday, 26 December 2021,” it said.

No further details were given.

Earlier in the week, Abu Dhabi tightened its border entry regulations as part of efforts to maintain its low Covid-19 infection rate.

The UAE capital has deployed EDE scanners at entry points from Sunday, December 19 for all those travelling by road from other parts of the country.

EDE scanners use technology to rapidly detect potential coronavirus cases by measuring alterations in electromagnetic waves.

Meanwhile, the UAE on Monday also announced that all employees and the public seeking to access federal government departments will need to have the green status on their Al Hosn app starting from Monday, January 3.

The ruling will be applicable across the country.

The UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) and the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) said the decision was taken as part of efforts made at the country level to ensure public safety.
