Dubai-based Emirates has urged its Dubai passengers travelling this upcoming weekend, June 26-27, to be prepared for heavy airport traffic.

Over 62,000 travellers are estimated to board flights operated by Emirates from Dubai on Friday June 26, the airline said in a statement. High passenger loads are also expected between June 25 -28, as travellers head home or abroad for the summer holiday season.

The carrier cautioned customers to arrive at the airport at least three hours before flight departure and plan for extra time to get to the airport. Passengers can check in up to six hours before departure, it said.

Emirates also recently introduced special areas for families – including 10 check-in counters in Terminal 3.

Customers have also been urged to check-in online and use the self service kiosks or baggage drop facilities to expedite their airport experience.

The airline warned that those who check in less than 60 minutes prior to their scheduled flight departure will not be accepted for travel.

Emirates also urged passengers travelling to the US, Canada and the UK to charge their electronic devices before getting to the airport, as they will be required to switch them on at the relevant boarding gates where screenings will take place, or risk being denied access to fly.

During busy travel periods, passengers may experience longer queues due to heightened security measures, the statement added.

Emirates had its busiest day in history on December 19 last year, when it flew roughly 80,000 people on over 240 flights.

The airline currently flies to over 145 destinations across 80 countries from Dubai International airport.
