New Oracle Database@AWS to ensure seamless cloud integration

Oracle Corporation and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have launched Oracle Database@AWS, a new service that enables customers to access Oracle Autonomous Database on dedicated infrastructure and Oracle Exadata Database Service within AWS environments, the companies announced this week.

The offering, introduced at Oracle CloudWorld, is designed to provide customers with a unified experience across Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and AWS, streamlining database administration, billing, and customer support.

This collaboration allows users to seamlessly connect their Oracle databases to AWS applications, including Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) and AWS analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML) services, such as Amazon Bedrock.

“This deeper partnership offers our customers the flexibility and reliability of AWS, combined with the latest Oracle Database technology,” said Larry Ellison, Oracle chairman and CTO, in a statement. “By deploying Oracle Cloud Infrastructure inside AWS data centres, we ensure superior database and network performance for our customers.”

How Oracle Database@AWS can help businesses

The launch of Oracle Database@AWS allows enterprises to integrate Oracle Autonomous Database with the robust infrastructure of AWS, leveraging low-latency network connections and AWS’s extensive availability zones.

Customers can benefit from simplified migration tools and Oracle’s Zero-ETL integration for faster data insights, without the need for complex data pipelines.

“As far back as 2008, Oracle workloads were running in the cloud, and many of the world’s largest organisations rely on AWS for their Oracle deployments,” said Matt Garman, CEO of AWS. “This partnership brings Oracle Database services to AWS, providing customers with a flexible, reliable, and scalable cloud solution.”

The announcement marks a significant step in helping businesses accelerate cloud migrations and modernise their IT environments. It includes benefits such as Oracle Support Rewards (OSR) and seamless integration with Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) for database backups and disaster recovery. The service is expected to be available in preview later this year, with wider availability planned for 2025.

Early customer endorsements of Oracle Database@AWS include companies from financial services, retail, and telecommunications. “This collaboration allows us to accelerate our modernisation efforts with confidence,” said Andrew Zitney, CTO of State Street. Similarly, Scott Petty, CTO of Vodafone, emphasised that the partnership would allow for faster delivery of secure and innovative services at scale.

Oracle and AWS are expected to jointly market the offering, targeting industries such as financial services, healthcare, and manufacturing.

This collaboration underscores the growing demand for multi-cloud capabilities as enterprises increasingly look to optimize performance, security, and scalability.
