Home Technology Gadgets OPPO to launch ‘ultimate’ AI phones in Dubai on July 2 The move to launch its new Reno devices comes as OPPO has set a goal to integrate AI across its entire smartphone lineup by the end of 2024 by Gareth van Zyl June 24, 2024 Phone maker OPPO is planning to officially release its new AI-empowered Reno 12 series phones in Dubai on 2 July 2024. OPPO’s Reno12 and Reno12 Pro phones are aimed at setting it apart in the market with unique features that include the company’s AI Eraser, AI Summary tool, AI Best Face and AI Clear Face apps, among many more. For example, the AI Eraser tool allows users to circle around unwanted subjects in images and then automatically remove these without a trace of post-processing. Then there’s OPPO’s AI Summary tool, which enables users to take snapshots of any text and display a neat summary thereafter. AI Best Face fixes photos where subjects might have accidentally closed their eyes. With this feature, eyes magically reopen with the click of a button. Meanwhile, AI Clear Face reduces distortion for up to ten people in a photo, thereby making sure that nobody is left out with a blurry image. HD details and textures make every person look like the star of the show. The Reno12 series is further built on the Google Gemini large language model (LLM) and its AI Toolbox allows quick access to this genAI tech. “With the Reno12 and Reno12 Pro, we are ushering in a new era of AI Phones that will redefine the way users interact with their devices,” says Lay Ren, president of OPPO MENA, in a statement. “This launch marks a pivotal moment for OPPO as we continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in the world of smartphones,” he added. For example, the Reno12 Pro is offered in two colours: Sunset Gold and Space Brown. Both variants of the Reno12 Pro feature a distinctive two-tone matte-gloss design, with a metallic ribbon dividing the back of the phone into two halves. On the other hand, the Reno12 model is available in Astro Silver and Matte Brown options. Added to this is OPPO’s Splash Touch technology, a proprietary offering that allows the screen to function properly even when the screen or the user’s hands are wet. Both models, though, come with an IP65 rating and provide dust and water resistance. Critical components across the phone, including openings, speakers, the USB-C port, and the SIM card tray, have also been reinforced to make the phones even more waterproof. At the time of writing, OPPO has not disclosed recommended pricing for the two devices. AI push The move to launch its new Reno devices comes as OPPO has set a goal to integrate AI across its entire smartphone lineup by the end of 2024. OPPO aims to bring GenAI to all its product lines, ensuring that around 50 million OPPO AI Phones will be in users’ hands globally by the end of the year. As part of its AI push, OPPO is seeking to integrate over 100 generative AI features across all its OPPO devices.
