More than a third of workers in the Middle East and North Africa believe their company’s human resource department does not promote their welfare, according to research by United Arab Emirates-based jobs site Bayt.com.

Another third have expressed a wish for the department to share more information with team members and improve their recruitment and interviewing techniques.

Thirty five per cent of respondents to the survey said improvements were needed in ‘all areas’ of HR, with training and development and handling complaints cited as pressing.

Meanwhile, 5 per cent said issues of compensation and promotion needed to be addressed.

Nearly half of respondents agreed their company was a good place to work.

Bayt.com’s VP sales Suhail Masri said: “Today, a jobholder’s workplace behaviour is strongly dictated by the very policies, procedures, and goals that stem from the HR division. According to the survey results, in this regard, although the HR departments are doing well, there is still room for improvement.”

Data for the poll was collected online from October 14 – November 4 2015, with 5,270 respondents covering more than 19 countries in the MENA region.
