Oman has decided against renewing existing visas of expats working in certain professions, Times of Oman reported.

Oman’s Ministry of Manpower (MOM) confirmed that the existing visas of expatriates working as sales representatives or promoters and purchase representatives will not be renewed.

The aforementioned expats will be expected to repatriate upon expiry of their visas.

“The Ministerial decision is clear and understandable, that after completion of the work-permit licenses, the expat who is working as a sales representative / sales promoter and purchase representative should leave Oman and their visas cannot be renewed,” a senior MOM official said.

This week, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Bakri, minister of manpower instructed to halt the issuance of work visas for sales representatives, sales promoters and purchase representatives in private sector companies in Oman.

In Q4 2019, Oman’s ministry had announced a six-month moratorium on visa issuance to private sector establishments operating in the construction and cleaning work sectors.
