Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority confirmed this week that it will stop issuing paper parking violation tickets beginning March 28.

Instead, those found erring will receive a notification of their fines via an email and SMS.

The RTA called on owners of vehicles to update their mobile number and email addresses by calling 8009090 to ensure that the most recent information is recorded in the system.

Not paying for parking will result in a fine of Dhs150. For those exceeding the maximum parking hours, or failing to renew their parking, it will result in a Dhs100 fine.

Parking illegally, obstructing or misusing a parking facility attracts a Dhs200 fine and unauthorised use of special needs parking space has a penalty of Dhs1,000.

However, electric cars registered in Dubai can enjoy free parking until mid-2022, the RTA confirmed last year. Electric cars registered in other emirates of the UAE, and using Dubai’s parking facilities, will  need to pay the relevant parking fees though.

The RTA’s push to go paperless comes against the backdrop of the Dubai Paperless Strategy which aims to encourage government departments to stop using paper in all internal and external transactions with customers by December 2021.

A number of other public entities in Dubai have moved towards paperless operations. Recently, Dubai Municipality and DEWA were confirmed to have gone 100 per cent paperless.
