Home UAE Dubai New Year’s Eve: Dubai’s Nakheel issues travel advice for Palm Jumeirah Nakheel has released details regarding travel to and from the Palm Jumeirah by Benjamin Brank December 27, 2020 With New Year around the corner, developer Nakheel has issued travel advice for those with plans to visit the Palm Jumeirah this weekend to help ease traffic. While the Pointe will not be having a fireworks show to ring in 2021, other activities – including a fireworks show at the Atlantis – are expected to draw in crowds. Nakheel said it is closely working with the Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality and Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to ensure safety, convenience, and smooth traffic flow throughout the island. The following advice has been issued in hopes of easing movement of the large crowds expected on around the island: Visitors Visitors are requested to expect more travel time and are encouraged to take public transport to get to their destination on the Palm Jumeirah. The Palm Monorail and local taxis serve as ideal substitutes to deal with such increments. To further encourage the use of public transport, Careem is offering discounted rides till January 2021 with the coupon code ‘THEPALMFOUNTAIN’ and there will be twice as many festive season shuttles operating from Nakheel mall to The Pointe. Visitors can benefit from free shuttle rides from 7pm to 3am. Pedestrians Pedestrian crossings will be operating in a limited capacity as crossings on the Trunk Road at junction 2 and junction 4 will be closed from 9pm to 1am on New Year’s Eve (junctions located near Shoreline Apartments Building 5 and Building 10 respectively). The crossings next to Building 3 and 7 will be open continuously and manned by security. Hotels, retail outlets and restaurants Food delivery is to be stopped after 5pm and venues have been advised to plan accordingly and provide sufficient parking for visitors. Furthermore, third-party contractors will not be able to operate, as permits will not be issued for the day. Dubai will be hosting fireworks in hotspots through the city, with certain locations more accessible than others.
