NCM forecasts more rain across the UAE next week

The UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a weather advisory, indicating that partly cloudy to cloudy skies are expected across the country next week.

The NCM said there is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall, which could be heavy in some areas while indicating that coastal regions may witness a drop in temperatures.

The forecast is for the period from Friday, April 19, to Tuesday, April 23.

UAE authorities and communities have intensified clean-up campaigns after the country experienced a rare torrential storm on Tuesday, leading to significant damage across the Gulf state.

The UAE saw record rainfall with 254 mm (10 inches) falling in less than 24 hours in Al Ain, a city on the border with Oman, according to the NCM. That was the most since records began in 1949 before the UAE was formed in 1971.

While efforts to recover are underway, another round of showers are forecasted next week. The NCM is also expecting light to moderate northeasterly to southeasterly winds for Tuesday.

The winds will shift northwesterly and potentially reach speeds of 15 to 25 km per hour, with gusts reaching up to 40 km/hour, the authority said in a social media post.
