Property developer Nakheel has awarded a contract worth almost Dhs59 million to Dubai-based Ghantoot Road Contracting for infrastructure work at its Al Furjan master community.
The contract includes the construction of a new road, modifications to existing roads and utilities network connection for more than 30 mixed-use plots at the community.
The plots, on which third party developers will build a mix of apartment blocks, retail and hotel accommodation, are located in Al Furjan Phase 2, which spans 1.2 million square metres and also includes 500 third party villa plots, already sold by Nakheel.
The work is due to be completed by the third quarter of 2015, Nakheel said in a statement.
Al Furjan Phase 1, with 800 homes, was completed last year and now houses over 2,500 residents.
Last month, Nakheel awarded a contract worth Dhs44 million to UAE-based Metac General Contracting for the construction of a 10,000 square metre retail and recreation centre in Al Furjan.
Featuring a supermarket, over 20 shops, 10 cafes and restaurants, a swimming pool, sports courts and parking for 360 cars, the new facility is due to open in March 2016.
The Al Furjan community centre is one of four Nakheel neighbourhood malls under development. Retail centres at Discovery Gardens and Jumeirah Park will open this year, while International City’s community centre is due to open in 2015.
