The trendy adjective was also the most used word on the site globally. The second and third most popular buzzwords in the UAE were ‘effective’ and ‘strategic’. With over 10 million users in the Middle East and North Africa region, LinkedIn has wide traction with professionals looking to boost their online profiles. However, the list showed that LinkedIn users in the emirates are still learning how to make the best use of their online presence to stand out from the crowd. “Our annual buzzwords list demonstrates how UAE professionals are yet to fully utilize the LinkedIn platform to its maximum potential,” said Ali Matar, LinkedIn MENA spokesperson. “Instead of defaulting on commonly used words to describe your professional experiences, you can easily differentiate yourself by incorporating photos, videos and presentations in your LinkedIn profile to demonstrate your best work.” Now in its fourth year, previous annual buzzwords lists have shown how the popularity of a word can rise and fall. In 2010 the most commonly used phrase was ‘extensive experience’ while in 2011 and 2012 the key word was ‘creative’.
