Morocco routs Portugal to advance into World Cup semis

Morocco stunned Portugal 1-0 in a thrilling clash to secure a spot in the tournament’s semi-finals.

The North African country continued its historic run at the FIFA World Cup, became the first Arab and African nation to advance into the tournament’s penultimate phase.

The match that took place at the Al Thumama Stadium, saw Moroccan player Youssef En-Nesyri hit the only goal.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, took to Twitter to share a celebratory message.

“No voice is louder than the voice of Morocco in the World Cup,” Sheikh Mohammed tweeted.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, also congratulated the Moroccan team.

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a phone call with King Mohammed VI of Morocco, during which he congratulated him and the Moroccan people on the qualification of the national football team to the semi-finals.

Morocco will take on defending champions France on Wednesday, December 14, at the Al Bayt Stadium.
