Dubai Police has clarified that members of the same family are not expected to follow the three-people limit, and are allowed to travel in the same vehicle without getting fined for violations.

First-degree relatives are also exempted from the rule and they can travel in the same vehicle even if there are more than three people.

General Saif Mihir Ạlmzrwʿy, director general of Dubai Police Traffic Department, said that a fine of Dhs1,000 will be imposed on a driver if he had more than three people in his vehicle but this penalty does not extend to members of the same family.

The police official urged the community to undertake measures such as to commit to social distancing of at least two meters, to stay away from gatherings in public places and to adhere to the preventive measures of the national sterilisation programme.

Dubai has eased movement restrictions, with malls and offices allowed to partially reopen provided they adhere to certain precautionary measures. Curbs on public movement will now be limited to the period between 10pm and 6am. During this period, the public will be allowed to leave their homes only for medical emergencies.
