Middle East media agencies win big at Cannes

Memac Ogilvy Dubai and Leo Burnett Beirut won big at the awards

Middle East agencies have scored well at this year’s Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

Memac Ogilvy Dubai won two golds – in print & publishing and in the outdoor categories – thanks to Ikea Saudi Arabia’s ‘It’s that affordable’ campaign. The campaign also picked up a silver in the print & publishing category. The agency also nabbed a bronze in promo & activation for its ‘Finding light in the dark’ campaign for Coca-Cola Middle East.

Memac Ogilvy Doha also landed a silver in the print & publishing category and a bronze in the design category for its work with Qatar Islamic Bank.

Meanwhile Leo Burnett Beirut won a Glass Lion and a bronze in direct for its hugely successful ‘Legally Bride’ campaign for Lebanese NGO Kafa.

While DDB Dubai picked up a silver in the radio category, two further bronzes were awarded to Impact BBDO Dubai in the print & publishing and radio categories.

In outdoor there was a further silver for ‘The Good Note’ by J.Walter Thompson Beirut, and a bronze apiece for TBWA\Raad Dubai and Y&R Dubai.

In creative effectiveness there was just one regional winner – a bronze for Vodafone Egypt’s ‘Fakka’ by J.Walter Thompson Cairo.

J.Walter Thompson also won two further silvers in design, thanks to Beirut’s ‘The Good Note’ and ‘Downtown fonts’ for Al Ismaelia for Real Estate Development in Cairo. Y&R Dubai also picked up a silver for its work for The Cartel.

There was a bronze for Almarai’s ‘The best milk cannot be bought’ by Leo Burnett Riyadh, but no winners in either the product design or digital craft categories.
