Global tech outage: DXB, Emirates, Etihad say flights on schedule

Jazeera Air has notified passengers of its operations being impacted in the ongoing global IT outage

Kuwait’s Jazeera Air has notified passengers that is operations have been impacted by the global Microsoft outage.

It said in a post on X that its “operations were severely impacted.”

Similarly, Saudi low-cost airline flynas said its operations have been impacted by the ongoing IT outage.

In a statement posted on X, flynas said, “Operations have been affected by the technical failure witnessed by several airlines around the world in one of the technical systems, which has led to the delay in the take-off of some flights in addition to slow services on the website and mobile application.”

“We are currently working with the service provider and all concerned parties to fix the fault and provide alternative systems to ensure that operations continue normally as soon as possible.”

Dubai Airport

Dubai Aiport has issued a statement on X, on the ongoing global IT outage that has impacted flights globally.

The airport authority said “flights were operating normally from DXB.”

It added, “The affected airlines immediately switched to an alternative system, allowing normal check-in operations to quickly resume.”

Airlines in the UAE

UAE’s flag carriers, Emirates and Etihad Airways said flight operations continued normally andon Friday, 19 July, despite the global IT issue affecting organisations worldwide.

A spokesperson for the Abu Dhabi-based airline, speaking to local media added, “There may be some limited delays to services across our network due to the global disruption.”

Similarly, Emirates reported no delays in flight operations thus far but acknowledged the possibility of some delays later in the day due to the knock-on effects from delayed departures at some airports within their network.

“We are aware of the global IT disruption and are closely monitoring the situation. Customers can check our website and app for the latest flight information and are advised to update their contact details in their booking,” said an Emirates spokesperson.

Additionally, Flydubai confirmed that the global network outage has not impacted their operations.

A Flydubai spokesperson stated, “The third-party IT issue has not affected our operations. We continue to monitor the situation closely and are in contact with the supplier.”

In a statement post on X, Air Arabia said its operations were not impacted by the outage.

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, in an emailed statement said, “It is monitoring closely the ongoing situation with IT outages due to a third-party provider affecting the aviation sector worldwide.”

It added that it is “advising all passengers arrive at the airport at least three hours before their scheduled departure time.”

“Our teams are working closely with the relevant stakeholders across our network to ensure a seamless travel experience for all our passengers.”

Additionally, local media reported that the airline had to suspend its fees for airport check-in as its online systems are unavailable due to the IT outage.

“During the outage, free airport check-in is available,” it said in a statement.
