The memory of the UAE’s martyrs will be engraved in the nation’s memory and conscience, said the President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan ahead of Commemoration Day.

The President also pledged to the families of the nation’s fallen soldiers that they will continue to receive the utmost care and full support of the nation, saying: “We are a nation that treasures the value of sacrifice and never forgets those who devoted their lives and offered their precious blood to keep the nation’s flag flying high.”

Marked on November 30 each year, Commemoration Day pays homage to “those who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, defending the sovereignty of their nation,” said state news agency WAM.

The Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, said: “The UAE’s martyrs have set a magnificent example of sacrifices that entrust us with a great responsibility to preserve our unity and become more committed and dedicated to continue the drive of evolving our beloved homeland.”

Commemoration Day comes just two days ahead of National Day, which takes place on December 2. This year is the 46th National Day, marking the declaration of the Union in 1971.
