Home Industry Retail Mall of Oman, country’s largest shopping destination, opens in Muscat Key features include a 15-screen Vox cinema complex and the country’s largest indoor snow park by Aarti Nagraj September 2, 2021 Mall of Oman, the country’s largest shopping destination, has opened to the public in Muscat, its operator Majid Al Futtaim announced on Thursday. Spread across with 140,000sqm of retail space, the mall features retail, leisure, entertainment, dining and experiential offerings. It feaures Oman’s largest Vox Cinemas – with 15 screens — as well as the only Imax experience in the country; the largest Magic Planet in the country, featuring rides, games and attractions; and a 9,000 square metre Carrefour Hypermarket. The mall has also unveiled a 1,000 plus seater food court, which will offer global brands and over 50 dining options, including restaurants and cafes. Currently, 80 per cent of the mall’s total gross leasable area has been leased, with outlets such as DKNY, Nespresso, G-Shock, Homes R Us and Tavola, and it is set to welcome over 300 additional retail outlets in the coming months, a statement said. Mall of Oman will also launch the largest indoor snow park in the sultanate next year, spanning over 14,000 square metres. In September, the mall will feature Dino World, an interactive dinosaur experience. In collaboration with EventBox, the new family offering will showcase the history and evolution of dinosaurs, life size dinosaur installations, a “roaming dino” interactive experience and augmented reality. Husam Al Mandhari, director of Shopping malls in Oman at Majid Al Futtaim Properties said: “We are pleased to welcome residents and tourists to the brand-new Mall of Oman – sultanate’s flagship destination for retail, leisure and entertainment. “Providing 3,500 new jobs in the region, Mall of Oman offers multiple first-of-its-kind experiences in the sultanate.” Majid Al Futtaim currently owns and operates 29 shopping malls in the GCC including Mall of the Emirates, City Centre malls, My City Centre neighbourhood centres, and five community malls which are in joint venture with the Sharjah government. The company is also the exclusive franchisee for Carrefour in over 30 markets across the Middle East, Africa and Asia, operating a portfolio of more than 375 outlets and an online store.
