FOLLOWING PREVIOUS CONTROVERSY regarding her design for Qatar’s Al-Wakrah stadium, Iraqi born Hadid was once again in the news last year, amid reports that a nearly 200-pound chunk of concrete had fallen from a new Hadiddesigned building in Vienna. Her dispute over the design of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic stadium also continued, when she branded opposing Japanese architects “hypocrites” following two years of criticism, alterations and budget cuts. Despite these setbacks, the Hadid name is still well respected with her preliminary designs for the new planned headquarters of Bee’ah Middle East in Sharjah attracting interest.
