Mahmood Hashim Al Kooheji

KOOHEJI WAS APPOINTED as the CEO of Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat in March 2012 and now oversees its $7.2 billion of assets with stakes in 38 firms, including Bahrain Telecommunications Co (Batelco), Gulf Air, and Aluminium Bahrain (Alba). Mumtalakat had a particularly strong 2013, with profits rising 135 per cent to BD109.4 million, and is now looking to expand its portfolio, particularly in Europe, with plans to invest upto BD150 million last year and the intention to double the fund’s size over the next few years. Kooheji is also undertaking the difficult task of returning national carrier Gulf Air to profitability.
