BAKR BINLADIN IS the chairman of a colossal construction conglomerate, the Saudi Binladin Group. The group’s projects include a $1 billion contract to build the world’s tallest tower, the 1,008m Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, set for completion in 2018. It is also planning to build the highest tower in Europe and Africa at Anfa City in Casablanca, standing at 514m, with an investment of $1.5 billion. On top of these, the company has other major projects in King Abdullah Economic City, the King Abdul Aziz International Airport, and King Saud University. Binladin also purchased a 50 per cent stake in Italian marble manufacturer, Marmi di Carrara for $61 million last year.
