The president of global R&D at the world’s fourth largest pharma company, Sanofi, is a well-recognised radiologist and medical researcher. His work led to major advances in CAT scanning and MRI on the back of which he founded or co-founded five start up companies. From 2002 to 2008 Zerhouni served as the director of the US National Institutes of Health, after being appointed by George Bush, and during his tenure sought to chart a roadmap for medical research. He was also one of the first appointed US science envoys to Islam in 2010.
